Jennifer Garner, who was born and was raised in Charleston West Virginia, on April 17, 1973, is from Houston, Texas. William John Garner served as an engineer for Union Carbide. The mother of her Patricia Ann taught at a local college. In order to continue in the footsteps of her father, she earned a degree in chemical engineering. However, because she wanted to pursue her dream as an actor, she relocated to New York to try her luck in the movies. While she was appearing in Broadway productions, she served as a server in an adjacent restaurant. Garner was a guest star in the show "Felicity." (It it was on this show when she met her first husband, Scott Foley.) Garner had her breakthrough in her romantic comedic film "13 Goin' on 30" where she played an teen trapped inside an adult's body. Garner chose Gary Winick (director) to direct the film. The role includes promoting national education, nutrition, and literacy as well as early learning. As an ambassador she visits often with families who belong to Early Steps to School Success the program which trains parents on ways to support young children to learn.
